Theme Month - Dawah

27 February 2023

This year for our Theme Month, we at Karima did a Da’wah Month. In week 1, we started with  a whistle-stop tour of the Abrahamic Faiths.

Children learnt about Judaism and Christianity circling back to how they are similar to Islam. From constructing churches and masjids to seeing the traditional clothing of other faiths, children were introduced to the other religions that people all around the world follow.

There were 5 stations during this tour including:

Station 1 - The basics of the Abrahamic Faiths
Station 2 - The traditional dress of the religions and designing a jubba/jilbab
Station 3 - Learning about the different celebrations of religions, including Christmas, Easter, Hannukkah, Passover, Eid and Ramdhan
Station 4 - Learning about the religious buildings
Station 5 - True and false competition room. In all these rooms they completed a variety of activities which involved team building exercises all the way to individual activities such as colouring in the traditional clothing.

Our second week was much more focused towards the finale event. Children made invitations for their teachers that they wanted to invite to the finale. The event was ‘A day in the life of a Karima Kid’. Children were to put on a performance for their school teachers whilst the teachers got to explore what the children do outside of school hours. They worked hard on their invitations and during all this the excitement of the finale started to build.

Continuing with the excitement, we breezed into week 3. In week 3 the children finally started prepping their performances, gathering costumes and props to bring the event to life. With each class having an assigned presentation they cracked on in their own classes with their teachers. Nerves were high when we all started to realise how soon the event was coming round but nevertheless, everyone continued working hard especially the children in practising their lines and perfecting every expression they had.

Week 4. The final event. The event that the whole month was building up to. With an early start, the hall started to get set. With beautiful fine china and lovely pastries the guests were well looked after.. As the time got nearer, children started to get butterflies in their stomachs. After working hard for ages and consistently they finally got to show their teachers just what they get up to in the evenings. They got to show them the beauty of their religion and how much they love it. From our littlest brothers and sisters singing ‘Allah made everything’ to our eldest talking about our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw), the event was a success by the grace of Allah (swt), Alhamdulilah.

Our very own head boy and head girl hosted the show, with funny jokes they prepared, our guests were blown away with the confidence on display. The night kicked off with Beginners 1’s very colourful performance. With animals from all over the world from birds to fishes, and lions to snakes. They performed  ‘Allah Made Everything’. Next on was Beginners 2, with the 99 names of Allah (swt) memorised masha’Allah. Intermediate was next with a funny upbeat play about Muslim pioneers. From our very own university graduates to our youngest pilots ever, they showed the hidden parts of our islamic history. Another play followed with Advance 1 showing ‘Their journey through Karima’. A sneak peak into what we teach was shown and they portrayed every aspect of the school perfectly. Finally we had our eldest class, Advance 2. They spoke about Prophet Muhammad (saw). With a beautiful play about the miracles and his last sermon, they ended the event on a high note. Children gave out white roses to their teachers at the end as a small token of appreciation.. Ending the night with a standing ovation, teachers spoke to their students and told them how proud they were. With bright beaming smiles on their faces they went home proud that they could show their teachers what Islam is really about.
