The Karima Girl’s Project aims to work with young Muslim women between the ages of 14 and 16.
The aim of the group is to discuss issues such as Image, Identity, Self Esteem and Place within School and Society.
The young women that are part of the programme are not necessarily young women who have a religious Islamic interest, however the young women who are part of this programme may have issues around displacement and segregation. As well as maintaining the balance between Western and Islamic values, making them potentially ‘at risk’ of becoming more marginalised and developing questionable thinking. The programme will address some of these feelings of being marginalised and healthy ways of overcoming or dealing with them.
The programme is aimed to address some of these issues and explore solutions for them with the young women.
Overall outcomes achieved by the project:
-
Engaging ‘at risk’ young people through positive activities.
-
Every Child Matter: Be Safe, Enjoy and Achieve.
-
Helping young people to understand their role in Society.
-
Helping young Muslims to develop healthy ideologies.
As part of the Residential Programme the group were taken to the Caldecotte Centre in Milton Keynes.
